DB Asset Services Project Worldmap
Permanente sensoren installatie
Locatie: Curacao
Trillingsdelgers implementatie
Location: Vietnam
Project by: Laurens Stigter
While DB Asset Services performed a factory acceptance test on a couple of diesel generators for our client, we noticed high vibrational levels. We followed up with a bump and run-up test and discovered these vibration levels were created because the generator was running in its natural frequency. To make sure that the machine was going to run in anti-phase DB Asset Services placed tune mass dampers on the generators. This was first performed on two generator sets in the Netherlands and when this was proven to work; dampers were installed in Vietnam.
Vermogens meting
Location: Fiji
Project by: Menno vd Beek & Joran Veenman
On a private yacht that travels across the world, problems were found with the couplings of the propulsion thrusters. The cliënt asked us to find the origin of this problem. To do so DBAS measured lateral and torsional vibrations on each coupling that was implemented. This project was followed from Los Angeles to Fiji, the advises given made sure the yacht was sailing safely. Overhaul power check
Locatie: Verenigde Arabische Emiraten
Project uitgevoerd door: Wim Boertjes & Menno van de Beek
A client asked DBAS to measure the performance of both SB and PS Diesel engines (WARTSILA 12V46 diesel engines) after a complete overhaul. The measurements and monitoring contained: the power (with strain gauges) and all relevant engine parameters provided by the vessel. Besides the vessel parameters, we performed lateral vibration measurements on the propulsion train, including SB and PS 12 MW propulsion gearboxes.Disturbing noise "Coal mill gearbox"
Location: Denmark
Project by: Willem Jansen
A service engineer of DB Asset Services was mobilized to a power plant to find the root cause of a disturbing noise produced by a coal mill gearbox. A coal mill which is out of operation will cause a significant loss in production of the plant, with great financial consequences. A vibration measurement was performed and the results were analysed on-site. Clear indications of a damaged input shaft bearing were observed. This bearing was replaced on-site, without removing the entire gearbox from the mill, resulting in a minimized downtime of the installation.Propulsion shaft: Leaking CPP oil
Location: Gabon
Project by: Menno van de Beek
The crew onboard noticed oil near the propulsion shaft. DBAS was invited by the crew to track down the origin of this leakage. DBAS performed a visual inspection on the propulsion shaft inside the gearbox. We discovered the shaft was partly broken, behind the thrust bearing and this lead to cpp oil leakage. The vessel could sail safely to the drydock to replace the prop shaft.Fleetcontract: First vessel CM-program
Location: Singapore
Project by: Laurens Stigter
On a vessel located in Singapore, we set up a condition monitoring program on all critical equipment. For a drillings vessel, the reliability of the propulsion installation is especially very important since it is lying on DP (Dynamic Positioning) during operations. The propulsion installation consists of two propulsion drives, three transverse thrusters and 5 generator sets. This vessel was the first vessel of our second fleet contract on which we implemented a condition monitoring program. Later on, many vessels followed.Pipelayer vessel: On/Offline monitoring
Location: Singapore -> South Africa
Project by: Laurens Stigter
End of 2014 DBAS sailed with a pipelayer vessel from Singapore to South Africa. The vessel is designed for the single-lift installation and removal of large oil and gas platforms and the installation of record-weight pipelines. Propulsion is arranged by 12 steerable thrusters with a power of 6050 kW each. Purpose of our visit was to install online monitoring systems on each of the twelve thrusters. Also, an offline monitoring program was set up for 160 installations. The crew was trained to perform the offline measurements. The data of the offline and online measurements are periodically analysed by DB Asset Services.Installing CM program Dredger
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Project by: Laurens Stigter
In March 2009 a condition monitoring program was set up on board of a dredger vessel. On all critical installations measurement plates were mounted. This way in the future, vibration measurements are taken correctly and on the same locations. The crew has been trained by DB Asset Services. They take vibration measurements every two months. The data is analyzed at the office and by DB Asset Services. Noises from planetary gearbox
Location: Suez, Egypt
Project by: Menno van de Beek
A planetary gearbox was fitted with an online system. In the evening, the crew heard a strange noise coming from the gearbox. After a call from the C/E, we promptly started with the analyses. One of the planetary gears had to be inspected. A broken bearing cage was discovered, but the system did not suffer from consequential damage. A spare bearing was found and just a few hours later we flew to Suez. In the meantime, the box was opened and the bearing removed. 16 hours after the strange sound was heard, the vessel was in operation again. Consequential damage from a broken planetary system was prevented.Hopper dredger
Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Project by: Menno van de Beek
Implementation of CM monitoring program where the crew takes vibration measurements and takes oil samples. For us this is a very common job. What makes this special was the direct advantages when we were on board. Faults since newbuilding could be detected and wrongly positioned oil sample points adjusted. The crew received a full technical training to perform the measurements themselves with a datacollecor. The data will be sent to us regularly to analyse and report the data. Funny enough we met some people from my village in the city of Buenos Aires. It is a small world.
LPG carrier
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Project by: Menno van de Beek
Some vessels have an unpredictable time of arrival. Sometimes the schedule changed drastically. We arrived in Tokyo for a survey the next day. Due to circumstances the vessel’s schedule was changed and delayed to Tokyo for a week. Luckily, we had the possibility to held office for the following days. This saved us time, and the customer money since we do not have to charge the in-between day rates. That shows the flexibility of our company.
Large Hopper dreder
Location: Makassar, Indonesia
Project by: Menno van de Beek
For an investigation on economical and absolute speeds, we were part of speed trials with a large vessel. With the combination of different techniques, we could map the collaboration between the vessels waterline versus speed versus fuel. We also used different depths under the keel to see the differences and provide an ideal sailing map. Also the CPP was adjusted for maximal efficiency. That shows the flexibility of our company.
Cutter dredger
Location: Gan, Maldives
Project by: Menno van de Beek
We performed a full pre-docking survey for cutter to spud pole. These pre-docking surveys, give you the list of jobs to do and installations to give attention. Or to postpone overhauls. In this case, among our advises, we advised to modify some de-aerations due to the different climate. The oil in the gearboxes suffered from condensation inside the box itself. The lubrication properties deceased dramatically. In “normal” conditions this was never a problem and worked well in all known history. Sometimes it is good to inspect sometime with different eyes. It is possible you get blind because you know your equipment so well.
